On Saturday, Dec. 10, the North Haven Fire Department was the focus of a filming session by Fire Engineering Magazine.

Headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Fire Engineering Magazine produces books and videos which demonstrate proper techniques of fighting fires.

Last week, local seniors and town department heads came together to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of autumn at the fall festival held at the Joyce C. Budrow Senior Center.

When terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center’s twin towers on 9/11, 20 North Haven professional and volunteer firefighters were summoned to Manhattan for assistance. All made it back safely, but not until after they spent 24 hours onsite, helping with recovery efforts.

Co-hosted by North Haven’s fire and police personnel, the town’s annual public safety day granted attendees a behind-the-scenes look into both departments and educated locals on proper safety techniques.

A crowd of family, friends, residents, town and state officials, town employees, department heads and police officers filled town hall’s second floor conference room to witness Thomas McLoughlin’s swearing in of as North Haven’s new police chief at a Police Commissioners special meeting.

At tonight’s Police Commission meeting, North Haven Police Chief James X. DiCarlo announced his retirement, effective March 31, after 38 years of department service in various positions.

In his monthly town overview presentation at the March 10 Board of Selectmen’s meeting, First Selectman Michael Freda discussed building department improvements, spring clean-up and ADA compliance for Town Hall.

North Haven Fire Department has begun preparations for hosting the 129th annual Connecticut State Firefighters’ Association Convention and Parade in September 2012. Overseeing the large event coincides with the department’s 100th anniversary.

Discovering no illegal activities, the state’s attorney office has ceased its investigation into North Haven’s building department.

Another potential North Haven building department problem could be Tuscan Villa, 415 Clintonville Road, a three-story, age-restricted retirement complex with 59 rental apartments, where $23,051 in fees may be owed.
