Senior co-captains Tyler DeMartin and Mike Andreucci led North Haven High School’s varsity hockey team with two goals and two assists apiece as the Indians defeated the Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury Co-op Team 6-1 at the Northford Ice Pavillion last Friday.

NHHS hockey begins new chapter, season

North Haven High School’s varsity boys’ hockey team opened up the 2011-12 season with a new head coach and four new captains. This year, former NHHS hockey player and Shelton High Coach Tom Roche took over lead coaching duties as the Indians try to erase last season's underachieving season which ended with a 7-13 record, and short of the playoffs.

NHHS Hockey wins YBSY Challenge

On Nov. 20, six area high school hockey teams (North Haven, Hamden, Hand, North Branford, Notre Dame and West Haven) competed in a strength competition to benefit the Sports Legacy Institute, which provides advancements in study, treatment, and prevention of brain trauma in athletics. The event included push-ups, pull-ups, broad jump, vertical jump and a one mile run. North Haven won the event and brought home the coveted "Bouch Cup." It was a great event and one that helped get the teams off to a good start. MB Sports Training was responsible for putting the program together.

SHA field hockey team supports teammate

The Sacred Heart Academy field hockey team joined senior teammate Erin Hillis at Brooksvale Park for the Farmington Canal Trail 5K Walk-A-Thon in the fight against pediatric functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders. Erin and her family are dedicated to raising funds to support the DHA Children's GI Research Network, the only nationwide network dedicated to improving the diagnosis and treatment of FGIMDs that emerge during childhood. According to Meghan Buckley, senior co-captain of the team, "As a team, we were thrilled to help out such a dear friend and teammate and support such a worthwhile cause."
