With the sun-filled, warm days of summer upon town, people are looking to fill their days and evenings with activities that will relax, entertain, occupy and recharge.

Approximately one month after Director of Community Services and Recreation Gerardo Sorkin was laid off when his position was eliminated, licensing, separation and personnel policy pay questions persist.

North Haven Director of Community Services and Recreation Gerardo Sorkin was laid off from Town Hall on Friday, June 25, for economic reasons, First Selectman Michael Freda said Monday.

At the crack of dawn every morning, former First Selectman Walter J. Gawrych wakes up and changes into his swim trunks. He heads down to the town pool, named in his honor, and can be found doing laps while most of the town is still sleeping.

"As long as I can keep getting up in the morning," said Gawrych, "I'll keep going."
