Bright lights are coming to North Haven this weekend when the musical from George and Ira Gershwin, "Crazy for You," plays at the High Lane Club.

The play, presented by Quick Change Productions and operated by Jared Andrew Brown and Patrick Laffin, includes some of the Gershwins' most famous songs including "Someone to Watch Over Me," "I Got Rhythm" and "Embraceable You."

Brown, who opened Jared Andrew Studio in town three years ago, said he and Laffin are doing their best to bring community theater to North Haven.

"I went to the schools first because I know the schools do one big play a year, but I wanted to know what the kids do in summer," said Brown, a Hamden resident. "They don't have anything. So we now have a summer theater production that anyone 10 or older can audition for. Our first production, last summer, was "Footloose" and it was fantastic. This is our second show and our summer production this year will be "Big," based on the Tom Hanks' movie."

Brown said the goal is to "add one new show a year" until they are producing "four to eight shows a year."

In addition, the duo's long-term goal is to build a community theater in five years.

But for now, Brown and Laffin are hoping for success this weekend.

The group received sponsorship from members of High Lane in order to use the theater at 40 High Lane, and each night, 20 dinner tables will be set up for the audience, which will dine before the performance.

Tickets for dinner performances, which runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m., are $35 per person.

There are also brunch performances, for the same price, on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tickets for dessert and entertainment only are $20.

Brown is not only the lead in the musical, but he is producing and directing the performance. He admits Laffin is "the other half of the equation. Without his artistic skills I'd be lost." Laffin, he said, designed the costumes and the set. "I can't draw a tree," Brown laughed.

Amy Cappella, who plays the female lead opposite Brown, has been in a play with him once before.

"We were in a play together in seventh grade," she said. "We went to school together when we were younger and we seemed to fall right back into our friendship from childhood."

Choreographer Amy Borysewicz met Brown years ago when they were both involved in West Hartford Summer Arts Festival. Though she has choreographed a number of performances, this will be her first time on stage.

Not all of the performers are from Brown's studio, he said.

"The studio classes are all about low stress," he said.

People can choose from several dance classes, including jazz, tap, modern, even hip hop.

"We don't have recitals, so people don't have to get anxious about performing in front of others," Brown said. "They can just enjoy the class."

For those who want to perform, the musical provides the perfect outlet.

"We have all levels of experience here, though," Brown said. "We have some people who've done this many times before, and we have some people who've never danced or been on stage before. But everyone is completely committed and it's come together in the end."
