North Haven town budget failed at referendum by 1,150 votes

The 2010-11 North Haven town budget failed at referendum tonight by 1,150 votes.
As announced by the Registrar of Voters around 9:15 p.m., 2,246 North Haven residents voted against the budget while just 1,096 voted in favor.
All five districts voted down the $85.073 budget, which had represented a $3.42 million increase, or a 4.5 percent increase, over the current budget.
The combined turnout of 3,343 represents 21.7 percent of eligible voters.
Town hall must now cut from the failed budget, and hold another round of referendum. The Board of Finance will next meet Wednesday, May 19 in town hall at 7 p.m.
